Attn: Obama supporters (mojo party).

I appreciate the support, but this is just a meta diary. PLEASE UN-REC THIS DIARY AND REC THESE EXCELLENT DIARIES INSTEAD:

The math: Obama has the better GE viability by TCQuad

Chairman of the TDP Endorses Obama by nklein

I think it's great that there're still enough of us to compete on the Rec List, but TCQuad and Nklein put far more effort into their diaries than I did for this one.

To preface:  I totally support Jerome revoking the ratings access of those who hide-rated (0-rated) Alegre's recent "is this snark, serious question" line.  If you zero-rated that remark, you undeniably violated the Trusted User guidelines.  Now I don't think he was right revoking the access of those who simply down-rated (1-rated) the comment, but what's done is done.

Yes, certain Clinton supporters (assuming they're genuine Clinton supporters) are getting away with outlandish ratings abuse, personal attacks ("cultists"/"boyz"), and McCain advocacy right now.  Yes, the application of these ratings suspensions appears a bit capricious, uneven, and generally lacking in due diligence when it comes to policing.  Adapt and deal with it, but don't throw your ratings access down the drain with stupid, futile gestures of frustration. If you must, just avoid rating anything contentious until the primaries're over (which they almost are).

Things'll improve dramatically once the nomination is settled (in t-minus five days), but I'm betting this site'll need all the janitors it can manage to sweep out the trolling that follows.  You think the McCain advocacy popping up now is bad?  Imagine how it'll be once Republicans come a-courtin' for disgruntled Hillary supporters.  Remember, McCain is already directing his supporters to start astroturfing progressive web sites.

That said, could Obama supporters who still have their ratings/rec access sound off in the comments?  I'm not sure who all got tazed in the most recent purge of privileges, and I'd like to share some mojo with those who remain.

I stay out of the prominent pro-Clinton supporters' diaries (i.e., TexasDarlin, Alegre, etc.), as those are where most of the ratings abuse takes place.

I also rarely hide-rate...if it's not an attack on Obama supporters or McCain advocacy, I generally just respond with a smart-ass comment instead of a HR.

There was this over-the-top pro-Hillary diary that got flamed by Obama supporters.  PJJefferson then wrote a diary devoted solely to complaining about the treatment of the other diarist.  PJ's diary became like flypaper for Obama supporters.  Each one would make a smart ass remark and PJ would tag each one with a TR.  I was the first one to comment.  Thus, my first TR.

Re: are you serious? (2.00 / 4)

No one "earn" rating abuse. Rating abuse means that its being done too often to people who don't deserve it.

Sorry, but there are just as many nasty comments on both sides. The problem is, a lot of clinton supporters have been abusing the ratings. That is, giving troll ratings and sometimes hide ratings to comments that may be harsh, but arn't direct attacks on other users, arn't spam, and don't violate the rules.

I often post comments now knowing they will get TR'd. I post them anyway, because I know they are completely within the guidelines, but some of the things I say make people angry. That's what happened with Alegre's comment. It was within the guidelines, but people were pissed about it.

"Chasing off anyone that disagrees" (2.00 / 2)

There's a difference between "chasing off anyone who disagrees" and wanting to be rid of those who repeatedly and incessantly refer to Obama supporters as "cultists" (see Engels) or "boyz" (see Alegre) -- these people can still rec & rate, and have never been punished for their attacks.

I'm not the only Obama supporter who wonders when such language will be ban-worthy.  Being labeled a "cultist" for supporting a Democratic candidate is something I'd expect to encounter at FreeRepublic, not MyDD.

Re: are you serious? (2.00 / 3)

I agreed with everything you said except for the echo chamber part.  I can understand why you don't like kos, but why would anyone want to wade into the candidate diaries on this site?  On a personal note, I actually really enjoy reading your posts and diaries.  We may not agree on candidates but you make me think.

thank you xris... (2.00 / 3)

i was never a member at kos although occasionally peek at some diaries there - but what i saw there, particularly before the 'strike' seems to be occurring here now - that is - the bullying of HRC supporters.

btw thank you for the kind words.  your comments in my diary the other day really were incredible and now you are on my list of BO supporter favourites.

Re: thank you xris... (2.00 / 4)

Write another diary that is not completed related to the horse race.  I actually find diaries like that more interesting than pure candidate a vs. candidate b ones.  We all kind of know who we like but can still have fun and talk about politics from different angles.

Precisely.  Other than wanting a bit of verbal bloodsport, there is no reason.  Part of me is sad that this place is no longer the substantive political site it was in 2004.  But it won't be like that again until awhile after the primary is completely over.

This is a bit sad though (2.00 / 5)

It's somewhat like the Matrix. The few (those of us who can rate), and the many, locked in the Matrix without a voice.

I've got 'em. Don't know if I'll use them though. The whole point to community moderation is that if a lot of the community thinks something is worthless, it goes away. "Piling-on" of TRs is exactly what is supposed to happen as it demonstrates that more people thought it was trolling than worthwhile. This is ruined now on this blog.

Re: Attn: Obama supporters who can still rate (moj (2.00 / 2)

I'm going to agree and disagree. I think people who rated it were valid in their opinion (even using the literal definition of 1 as being an attack on another user). However, I think some people who rated it would not have had the name of the poster been different.

That is, they saw someone who they didn't particularly care for make an easy target of herself and they didn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

The whole thing was a debacle from post to pile-on to punishment.  The thing that confuses me most is that, if pile-ons don't make a difference, it seems unnecessary to make a big deal out of it.

Re: Attn: Obama supporters who can still rate (moj (2.00 / 3)

I can rate and rec, and I take my TU status seriously and review the HR comments regularly.  I try to only give HR's for things that are so offensively shocking, and TR's for abusing other users.  I'm not a piler-on unless I see that others are trying to uprate something that should be hidden.  I try to be fair in my ratings, although I am admittedly biased towards Obama commenters.  HRC zealots (which is not the same as HRC supporters) like to call me out for rating them (see if you can guess who they are).  And I know for a fact that one of them went through my comment history and downrated five of my comments for pure retaliation after I downrated an offensive Obama slur.  Three have said they reported me for my alleged abuse.  Since I have not lost my ratings ability, I assume Jerome or another admin saw the offense in their remarks.

They did that to a bunch of people.  I think they called it vengeance rating.  Pretty awesome stuff.

That diarist and her buddies used to do similar sorts of things on dailykos.  Then they organized their strike, publicized it and came over here.

Re: 4justice? (none / 0)

I'm not going to name names (oh god, would I love to).  I just don't think it's appropriate to name someone in a negative light at all.  But no, that's not the person who did it to me.

Re: Attn: Obama supporters who can still rate (moj (2.00 / 3)

I can still rec and rate.  I was out of town during the purge.

I don't really understand why Jerome is handling these situations the way he is.  I do think he will eventually regret some of the choices he has made along the way.

My guess is that it will happen after he writes his first pro-Obama diary and gets added to the ever-expanding "He was never a real democrat and I have always really hated him anyway" list.  I think next week the list is going to include most superdelegates.

I'm not sure (help) (2.00 / 1)

I've HAD, since I opened my account, a drop down that gives me three options.

0-Hide
1-Troll
2-Mojo

Until recently I've been a TU on Dailykos (until I left for a month to the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy), but I was puzzled why my mydd account gave me that privilege from the beginning. Is this a normal account?

You're a TU. (2.00 / 1)

Access to the "hide" rating means you're a trusted user.  You must've made some good mojo-magnet comments early on.

Thanks for the double bonus rec! (none / 0)

I appreciate the attention! It's only my third diary and, honestly, not much work for me. Bioinformatics is way more complex than manipulating data from a couple of spreadsheets. I actually spent more time on the one earlier today (The Cake is a Lie) with a similar theme, simply because then I had to, you know, be eloquent and stuff to get my point across. Throwing at numbers people is what I do to relax. And in my research. I like my research. It's like I exist in an XKCD comic some days, in a good way...

(BTW, 1453 is prime. Not that I immediately tried to prime factor it.)

But, with the extra attention, all of a sudden I feel like my comments are contributing and I feel obliged only to say serious, insightful things.

Uh...

Um...

Woozle wuzzle?

Dang.

I never troll-rate. (2.00 / 1)

And I give lots of recs (or 2's, or, as it used to be, 4's).  I decided a long time ago that if I started troll-rating posts and people I didn't like, I'd enjoy it too much and never be able to stop.  Just like contract-killing.

It's much more fun to slander people you don't like.  It's less chickenshit.
